THE OLD MAP ON THE LIBRARY CEILING
This is a huge painting, 17 feet by 15 feet, on a ceiling of two - story library room in a private residence. Coggeshall included the longitudinal and latitudinal lines, sea monsters and nautical icons. The chandelier is centered within the old compass icon. The artwork wraps down the upper walls of the second floor and curls in trompe l'oeil weathered edges behind the balcony rails.
This work is a exact scaled copy of an old map of the world as it was perceived in 1499.
