GRISAILLE - A MONOCHROME TECHNIQUE |

| The grisaille method was first practiced by Flemish artists in the early 15th century. Grisaille utilizes various shades of gray and gray washes resulting in creating images which give the illusion of sculpture. | |||||||||

The artwork here measures nine and a half , by seven and a half feet! | ||||||||
| This huge piece is painted in two colors, taupe and white. | |||||||||
| The work is applied directly to the wall. A white wooden trim was added providing a framework for the massive piece.
The result is that the image appears to be a tapestry hung on the staircase wall. |

| To the right is a view from the second floor balcony. Look at the shading detail: The clouds, the palm fonds, and the draperies. Exquisite!
The background is a simple landscape with soft angled contour lines implying a seashore or a river bed. It is designed to be nothing too distracting, yet elegantly completing the art work. |
