Marbleizing

Is this floor tile made of marble? Coggeshall makes it appear to be so.

This technique, marbleizing, changes the appearance of a surface to resemble a highly polished marble stone.

Marbleizing is another specialty mastered by this artist.

Coggeshall comments about these photos:

There were six columns in the room. They were white plaster to begin with. The home owner wanted to have them appear to be marble columns. He also wanted the marbleized surface to match that of a real marble fireplace in the room.

The work required that I applied many coats of paint with multiple sandings with steel wool in between each coat.

The columns were finished with several coats of a varnish, again with heavy steel wool sandings between each coat. This technique achieved the appearance of the high luster of polished stone

This fireplace is finished to appear made of pink marble.
Table top finished to appear as if it was inlaid with malachite.
