The finish on these metal doors appears to be of gold and copper. This is because it is indeed such!
Here I am working on one of two bedroom doors.

I have already painted them with 5 coats of copper-leaf powder suspended in a latex base. The raised trim was accented in a gold tone powder.

The final step was to apply an ultra thin burnt umber glaze to "antique" the finish. I allowed the color to pool around the raised trim sections.

The finished doors, shown below, speaks of age and grace. This technique also made them appear to be heavy. Good! They actually weigh some 200 pounds each!
